At the end of every year, I like to take some time to think about some of the things that made me happy to accomplish in the previous year. (If I don’t do this, then I get into a sort of rut and start to think that my life is passing before my eyes, so it keeps me sane.) Come January, I’ll think of some of my goals for next year, but for now, I’m looking backward, and since we’re on the blog, I wanted to cover some of the writing projects that brought me joy in 2025.
The first thing that comes to mind is the JRW newsletter and the blog. We switched from a weekly newsletter to an every-other-week newsletter back in September, and that was a tough decision (because I loved writing to everyone every week), but it’s given me some time to write here on the blog too, and building it up a bit has made me happy.
We also made a lot of progress on Interloper this year—I have nine episodes drafted, and I’m hoping to soon get to a place where I can start publishing those episodes regularly. Writing all of those short stories has also given me a lot of practice in outlining story plots, and writing short stories in particular. I think I see some improvement from when I started working on Interloper to where I am now.
Speaking of publishing, I’m also happy with the steps we’ve taken toward getting Sky Raiders and Shadow Hawks published. The holidays have kind of put that on hold, but I’m expecting to be able to pick it up again come January, when things slow down again.
And last, but not least, I’m really excited about the massive progress that we made during NaNoWriMo in November on the third book of the Sky Raiders trilogy (still unnamed). I didn’t quite hit 50,000 words during NaNo, but I’ve written 44,000 of it, and I’m very happy with that headway. I think it brings us about a third of the way through the story. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up that pace, but NaNo also helped me to establish a new routine for myself to incorporate more writing into my day-to-day.
It’s been a really great year for writing projects, and I hope it’s been a great year for you too in all of the endeavors you spent time working toward. I hope your Christmas is merry, your holidays are happy, and I will look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
